Wall Washers: Use asymmetric optics (batwing distribution) to create smooth,
even illumination on surfaces.Installed close to the wall (0.3–1m), they highlight
texture and material without visible hotspots or shadows.
Ideal for modern, flat facades where seamless, “light-washing” effects are desired.
Flood Lights: Employ symmetrical/narrow beam optics to project intense light from a
distance (5–20m). They emphasize architectural massing and form, often creating bright
center spots with gradual falloff and shadows. Best for monuments, textured surfaces,
or structures requiring dramatic visual impact.
Design Guidelines
• Choose Wall Washers when the goal is subtle, consistent illumination of flat or
textured walls (e.g., stone, metal panels) and installation space is limited.
• Choose Flood Lights for bold, long-throw accent lighting on taller or distant structures,
especially when budget efficiency is a priority (fewer fixtures may cover larger areas).
In practice, the two are often combined: wall washers graze lower facades, while flood lights
pick out upper sections or signature elements.
