Yixing Traditional Covered Bridge Lighting Project
Located in Yixing, Jiangsu Province—a region famous for its scenic rivers and rich cultural heritage—this architectural lighting project features a grand traditional Chinese covered pavilion bridge spanning across a natural waterway.
The objective of the project was to transform the wooden and concrete bridge into a breathtaking nighttime landmark while respecting its traditional aesthetic, protecting the structure from riverbank moisture, and ensuring long-term operational durability.
Illuminating heritage-style bridges situated above active water bodies presents unique optical and technical hurdles:
Bridges spanning natural rivers are continuously exposed to high moisture, water mist, and seasonal fog. Standard outdoor luminaires risk water ingress, internal condensation, and premature LED degradation.
Traditional Chinese pavilion architecture features multi-layered curved eaves (Feiyan) and intricate tile contours. Using rigid, heavy fixtures often disrupts the daytime aesthetics of historic-style buildings.
Direct unshielded light sources can create harsh glare for pedestrians walking inside the covered corridor and cause uncontrolled light spill over the river surface, disrupting local wildlife and aquatic eco-systems.
To address these challenges, Always Lighting engineered a multi-layered, low-glare, and high-protection illumination system tailored specifically to the structural layout of the Yixing Covered Bridge:
Custom Dot Matrix & Linear Profiling: High-brightness, wide-beam LED Pixel Point Lights (2700K–3000K Warm Gold) were mounted along the roof contours and ridge tiles. This highlights the iconic silhouette of the pavilions against the dark night sky without altering the daytime facade.
Linear Eaves Washing: Compact IP67 LED wall washers provide uniform golden illumination along the underside of the tiled eaves, creating a layered, glowing lantern effect.
Anti-Glare Linear Lights: Integrated low-glare white LED linear channels along the handrails define the bridge deck line, guiding evening visitors safely across the water.
IP68 Cyan/Blue Pier Uplighting: To create a striking contrast with the warm golden roof, powerful IP68 waterproof LED floodlights in cool blue/cyan were installed at the base of the concrete piers. The light washes up the pillars and reflects beautifully on the river surface, giving the impression that the bridge floats gracefully on water.
| Zone / Feature | Lighting Fixture Type | CCT / Color | Beam Angle | Protection Rating | Key Feature |
| Roof Eaves & Ridges | Architectural LED Pixel Point Light | 2700K Warm Gold | 120° Wide Angle | IP67 | UV-Resistant Housing, Daylight Stealth Design |
| Pavilion Roof Underside | Compact Architectural Wall Washer | 3000K Warm White | 15° × 45° Oval | IP66 | Uniform Vertical Wash, Anti-Glare Louvers |
| Bridge Deck Guardrails | Slim Outdoor Linear LED Profile | 4000K Neutral White | 90° Diffused | IP67 | Seamless Continuous Glow, Safety Pathway Lighting |
| Waterfront Bridge Piers | High-Power Submerged LED Floodlight | Deep Cyan / Royal Blue | 30° Medium Spot |
Answer: All fixtures installed in humid or waterfront environments utilize IP67 or IP68 ingress protection, double-sealed silicone gaskets, and corrosion-resistant anodized aluminum or 316 stainless steel housings. Internal electronics feature waterproof conformal coating to prevent moisture condensation.
Answer: We utilize low-profile, custom-colored fixture housings (matching the timber or roof tile tones) and compact pixel point lights. Cables and mounting brackets are hidden along structural seams, ensuring the fixtures remain virtually invisible during daylight hours.
Answer: The dual-color concept creates a visual contrast between "warmth" (representing human culture, warmth, and traditional architecture) and "coolness" (representing the deep water body). This contrast enhances structural depth and makes the bridge stand out as a regional landmark.
Answer: Yes. Our solutions support DMX512 dynamic dimming and timer scheduling. Systems can run on full aesthetic mode during peak night tourism hours and automatically switch to energy-saving pathway mode after midnight.
Whether you are illuminating historic pavilion bridges, riverbanks, or modern architectural landmarks, Always Lighting offers full technical support, optical custom engineering, and factory-direct reliability.
